Manager, Database Administration

Our hiring partner is a leading financial services organization with a strong national presence across wealth management, capital markets, clearing, and prime services. The company is known for its innovative approach, commitment to compliance, and focus on building scalable technology solutions.
We are seeking an experienced Manager, Database Administration with deep expertise in Microsoft SQL Server and strong proficiency in PostgreSQL. This is a strategic and hands-on leadership role requiring a balance of technical depth, stakeholder management, and team leadership.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the full product lifecycle for compliance applications, from requirements gathering to delivery.
  • Ensure systems and databases align with SEC and FINRA regulations (recordkeeping, surveillance, employee trading, disclosures).
  • Act as the bridge between Compliance, Legal, Engineering, and external vendors to translate business needs into technical solutions.
  • Integrate third-party compliance tools into internal platforms (e.g., surveillance, monitoring, case management).
  • Collaborate with data teams to ensure accurate and auditable compliance data for reporting and investigations.
  • Manage agile ceremonies, sprint backlogs, and deliverables.
  • Evaluate, onboard, and manage vendors for compliance-related technology.
  • Support audits and risk assessments with clear documentation and improved workflows.
  • Provide hands-on database expertise in performance tuning, query optimization, and scaling extremely large datasets (2B+ records).

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field (required).
  • 10+ years in Database Administration, including 8+ years with Microsoft SQL Server (2016+).
  • Strong proficiency in PostgreSQL administration and optimization.
  • Proven experience managing very large datasets (2B+ records).
  • Expertise in query optimization, indexing strategies, partitioning, scaling, and archiving.
  • Hands-on experience with high availability solutions (Always On, Log Shipping, Replication).
  • Scripting proficiency (PowerShell, T-SQL, Bash, Python).
  • Experience with cloud database solutions (Azure SQL, AWS RDS, Aurora, managed PostgreSQL).
  • Strong communication and leadership skills with ability to manage diverse stakeholders under tight deadlines.
  • Regulated industry experience (finance, healthcare, etc.) is a plus.
  • Relevant certifications highly preferred (Microsoft Azure DBA Associate, PostgreSQL Certified Professional, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, etc.).
  • This is a hybrid role in Los Angeles, 7 days a month.
