Database Engineer
Limassol, Cyprus | Hybrid | Full-time
Description
We are looking for an experienced Senior/Middle Database Engineer to join global fintech company. The team is responsible for large-scale production database and data platform infrastructure.
The team operates hundreds of production database clusters across PostgreSQL, ClickHouse, MongoDB, Cassandra and other distributed data systems. This is not a traditional DBA role — it combines database engineering, platform engineering, reliability engineering, automation, and production support.
Experience with on-prem / self-hosted database infrastructure, high-load systems, and production environments is especially important.

- Support and evolve production database infrastructure.
- Work with PostgreSQL, ClickHouse, MongoDB, Cassandra and other distributed data systems.
- Ensure availability, reliability, replication, backup/restore and failover.
- Analyze and optimize database performance, queries and workloads.
- Participate in incident response, troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
- Set up and improve monitoring and observability for database platforms.
- Automate database operations: backups, failover, scaling and maintenance.
- Improve Infrastructure-as-Code, CI/CD and deployment processes.
- Collaborate with developers, SRE and infrastructure teams.
- For senior-level candidates: design architecture, mentor engineers and drive best practices.
- Experience in database engineering, DBA, database platform or SRE/database roles.
- Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL.
- Experience with one or more databases: ClickHouse, MongoDB, Cassandra, Vertica or similar.
- Experience with production database clusters.
- Understanding of HA/DR, replication, backup/restore and capacity planning.
- Strong skills in performance tuning, query optimization and indexing.
- Linux administration experience.
- Experience with monitoring/logging tools: Prometheus, Grafana, Zabbix, Graylog or similar.
- Experience with automation: scripts, IaC, CI/CD pipelines.
- Understanding of database fundamentals: consistency, isolation, scaling and security.
- English B1+ (written and verbal communication)
Nice-to-have:
- Experience Production experience with ClickHouse: replication, sharding, MergeTree, Distributed tables, query optimization.
- Experience with PostgreSQL advanced features: logical replication, partitioning, extensions.
- Experience with Patroni, repmgr, pgBackRest, Barman, PgBouncer.
- Experience with Kubernetes, bare metal or private cloud environments.
- Experience with MinIO / Ceph.
- Experience in high-load fintech, trading, betting, adtech, telecom or e-commerce projects.
