AI Agent Engineer (Realtime Systems & Backend)

Description
Join a fast-growing AI startup building an AI speaking coach and lead the development of a production-grade Voice AI Agent. You’ll work end-to-end across real-time voice systems, agent orchestration, applied ML, and backend infrastructure, collaborating directly with the company’s CEO and CTO.
- Lead the development of the Voice AI Agent using Python, LiveKit and WebRTC, owning end-to-end real-time voice pipelines including streaming ASR/TTS, VAD, diarization, state management, retries and latency optimization
- Build agent orchestration and applied ML systems around LLMs including tool calling, routing, RAG, memory, guardrails, fallback flows, prompt/response orchestration and A/B testing
- Develop and deploy voice and ML components including ASR, TTS, VAD, speaker diarization, embeddings and scoring, working with DSP, ffmpeg, streaming inference, quantization, ONNX and TensorRT
- Develop backend services and integrations when needed using Nest.js, Node.js, REST, OpenAPI, Drizzle ORM, Supabase and PostgreSQL
- Design reliable and scalable real-time systems with idempotency, backpressure, caching, batching, queues, scheduling and graceful degradation
- Own observability and production reliability using Sentry, Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, tracing and SLOs, quickly identifying and fixing production issues
- Manage infrastructure and deployments using Docker, GitHub Actions, LiveKit Cloud, Modal, Render and AWS, including GPU inference, secrets management, rollbacks and canary releases
- Maintain high engineering quality through testing, strict typing, documentation, code reviews and simple maintainable solutions
- Own projects end-to-end and make pragmatic technical decisions in a fast-moving environment
- Strong hands-on engineering experience with the ability to move quickly and consistently deliver to production
- Experience working in Big Tech, VC-backed startups or Yandex
- Previous startup or founder experience is a strong advantage
- Strong technical background demonstrated through top-tier education, competitive programming, Kaggle, Codeforces, olympiads or similar achievements
- Meaningful open-source contributions and strong GitHub activity are a plus
- Concrete examples of products or applications you have built or significantly contributed to, with links to websites, App Store, GitHub or other public examples
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly and collaborate effectively
- Fast-paced environment with a strong focus on ownership, autonomy and consistently delivering projects to production
- Direct daily collaboration with the CEO and CTO and full ownership of projects end-to-end
